In his book, "Orchid Isles, the Story of Orchids in Hawaii," Paul Wood states: "If orchids could dream of an orchid heaven, they would imagine something like the Hawaiian Islands."
Hawaii has the perfect climate and microclimate with just the right amount of humidity, sun and fresh breezes.
If you want to learn more about orchids, come join one of the two orchid clubs on the island. The Garden Island Orchid Society meets in Hanapepe at the United Church of Christ while the Kauai Orchid Society Meets in Kapaa at the Mahelona Hospital.
Both meet six times a year. The Garden Island Orchid Society hosts the Spring Fantasy Show which is usually held at the end of March or early April, and Orchids in Paradise, which is one of the displays at the Kauai Farm Bureau Fair. Kauai Orchid Society has one show at Kukui Grove just before Mother's Day.
